When A.Z Gems became a business twenty-five years ago, it was not with the idea of becoming a jewelry store. Quite frankly it was a hobby. The story of how a business began in someone's basement is an old one. Dave Sarna has been a gemstone cutter for the last ten years but polishing and tumbling stones began long ago. At a young age he made jewelry from his tumbled agate rough. Even as a hobby, machines used for cutting gemstones were rather expensive so they thought maybe they could sell the gemstones Dave cut. A.Z. Gems was born. Dave was selling so many of his faceted stones, customers asked them to be set in mountings. This is where Judy Sarna stepped in. Having graduated from Dental Assisting School, she quickly learned how to use the instruments of a jeweler.

Request had gotten so overwhelming from selling at local craft shows that they decided to build a little shop in the South End of Fall River. Now A.Z. Gems is a full service jewelry store carrying everything from gold chains to precious gemstones. In the Summer of 2000, the store moved to Tiverton, RI on Stafford Road. The move allowed more space to showcase their ever expanding jewelry selection. That was the location where they celebrated 20 years in business. In July of 2006, the store moved to its current location at The Westport Village Commons. Judy and Dave are take pride in getting to know their cust-omers and provide them with personalized service for great prices. A.Z. Gems is sure to become you first stop when you are looking for that unique jewelry gift that will be treasured for years to come.
